Segway-Ninebot’s New KickScooter Range: The F-Series

What is an electric scooter?

A form of micro-mobility, an electric scooter is a stand-up scooter powered by an electric motor. It has rapidly seen an increase in popularity across the world due to their convenience, eco-friendliness and low operating costs.

How do I choose the right electric scooter?

Design

While we know that the main purpose of the scooter is to get you around, that doesn’t mean you can’t ride in style. Some scooters will come in a range of colours and brands tend to imprint their own unique design on their products. It also gives you the opportunity to harness your own creative skills by giving you the chance to show off your own personalised style.

Weight

Weight is an important factor to consider depending on what sort of use you want to get from your scooter. They tend to weigh on average 12kg but can vary from 7kg to 20kg. If you’re someone that will be carrying your scooter for extended periods of time then a lighter weight would be more ideal for you.

Range

The range of your electric scooter is defined as how much distance you can cover on one full charge. These electric scooters can vary in range from 20km to 75km per charge.

Rider Weight

Not all E-scooters are designed to hold the same weight load and it’s important to factor this into your decision when purchasing an E-scooter. The weight load is generally designed to hold a maximum weight of 100kg but can range up to a weight of 120kg.

Maximum Speed

Due to the laws currently surrounding e-scooters in Australia, most states have imposed a limit of 25km/h while others have a 10k/h maximum speed.

Motor Power

Similar to the maximum speed of e-scooters, certain states have imposed limits on the motor power of e-scooters. The best thing to do is to look up the laws for your state to ensure your e-scooter is compliant.

Hill Climb Ability

E-scooters are restricted to a certain incline angle or hill grade. Most commuter e-scooters only have a 10-15% hill grade. This means it can only climb inclines with a 5-10 degree angle. Moreover, climbing hills is not that easy since the gravity, friction, and weight will slow you down.

Brakes

Brakes are an essential part of the e-scooter and are necessary for staying safe and in control when riding an e-scooter. Electronic Scooter brakes fall into 2 different categories: mechanical and electronic.
Mechanical brake systems rely on a physical braking mechanism to slow the e-scooter down.
Electronic braking systems use the motor to brake the e-scooter and include electronic and regenerative braking systems.
While mechanical systems offer stronger braking, an electronic braking system don’t require regular adjustments or maintenance.
For safety reasons, we recommend that you an e-scooter that has a combination of electronic and mechanical braking systems just in case one fails.

Tyres

Tyres will come as 2 different types: pneumatic (air-filled) and solid rubber (airless). Air-filled tyres provide the advantage of shock absorption and much better handling but are prone to punctures and require maintenance. On the other hand, solid tyres require zero maintenance but don’t ride as smoothly.

Lighting

E-Scooter lighting is an important feature in allowing riders to stay visible at night and generally many scooters will include at least one LED headlight and a brake-activated tail light.

Price

When deciding on what e-scooter to purchase, price is a big factor to consider. How much can you afford to spend? E-scooters generally range from $500 to $3000 with the more expensive ones generally being of better quality and coming equipped with more features compared to the cheaper models.

Warranty

Warranty is an important aspect to consider when purchasing an electronic scooter. It ensures that consumers are covered if the product they purchase has a defect. At Panmi, all Segway-Ninebot products are covered by a 12 month warranty.
